When I'm not working on one astronomical project or another, the chances are good that I'm either going for a bike ride ,

a backcountry ski trip,

or a hike

-- or else I'm dreaming about it. Otherwise, I'm probably home with my family, working on an activist project related to bicycles, or waiting hand and foot on Willie, our cat of 17 years. (For help viewing this stereogram, see 3D instructions .)

I'm originally from New York City but I live with my wife, Mary Beth Brooker, and daughter Melle Brooker Lowenthal, in Northampton, in the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, where I work at Smith College. I usually commute by bike . (I used to work at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst , and would bicycle 10 miles each way along the Norwottuck Rail Trail)
