Independent Observing Projects

    Sky Quiz:
Identify constellations, bright stars in presence of lab instructor. You may ask for help as often as you wish, and retake the quiz as many times as necessary, but in order to pass it you must identify all the objects with no assistance.

    Seasonal Sunsets:
Observe sunset placement on the horizon from the College Lane bench 5 times during the semester. Aim for two observations before Break. Each observation must have at least a 3-week interval between it and an adjacent one. Record date, time, & location on Sunset Logsheets. Due last day of class

    North Sky I and II:
Sketch northern stars relative to the north horizon multiple times during the course of a night early in the semester and then repeat later in the semester.

    Lunar Motions:
Observe the moon on at least 2 different days separated by at least 5 days. For each day, record the appearance of the moon and its location relative to the meridian several times during that day.
